Independence helps Bangalis get top posts

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that the Bangalis are now being appointed in top posts as the country has eared independence.

She made this remark at the concluding ceremony of the 60th basic training course of public administration training center at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in city on Thursday (March 31).

‘No Bangalis could get top posts both in military and civil services during the period of Pakistan. Later, the situation improved little bit due to the movement of Bangabandhu’s 6-point demand.’

‘The Bangalis are now getting top positions as the country has earned independence.’

The PM said that after 21 years Awami League assumed power and started working to make the government organizations people-oriented.

‘We will celebrate the golden jubilee of our independence in 2021. We will reduce gap between the rich and poor. We are trying to remove the complicacies in bureaucracy.’

According to the premier, her government has been working to provide services to the doorsteps of people by implementing digitalization system since assuming power.

Bangladeshi killed by Houthis in KSA

MEDINA: A Bangladeshi was killed and two others injured by a missile fired by Houthi rebels in Khoba area of Najran province in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The deceased was identified as Naya Mia, hailed from Sakhipur upazila of Tangail district.

Dr Milon, a Bangladeshi physician who is working at Najran General Hospital, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said Naya Mia was killed around 12:00pm local time (3:00pm Bangladesh time) on March 30 (Wednesday).

The injured were shifted to King Fahad Central Hospital in Jizan from Najran General Hospital, Dr Milon added.

2 killed in Jessore bomb blast

The deceased were identified as Sabuj, 28, son of one Anar Uddin, and Ibadul, 36, son of one Ramjan Ali. Both were from Kathmara village of sadar upazila.

Earlier on Wednesday night, five were injured at a blast while making bombs in Andolpota area of the sadar upazila.

Later, the injured were admitted to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital where the two succumbed to their injuries under treatment.

Jessore Kotowali Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Ilias Hossain confirmed the matter.

Jessore sadar upazila on Thursday morning (March 31).

BB reserve heist: Philippines identify 2 Chinese

DHAKA: Two Chinese businessman had allegedly brought the $81 million stolen funds from the Bank of Bangladesh into the Philippine financial system, junket operator Kim Wong, also known as Kam Sin Wong, told a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

Wong identified the two as Shuhua Gao and Ding Zhize during the ongoing investigation of the Senate blue ribbon committee on Tuesday.

Wong said Gao has been a junket agent for almost eight years now, while Ding, a businessman from Macau, was introduced to him by Gao.

Wong said Gao borrowed P450 million from him after incurring big losses at a casino in Solaire.

Last month hackers got away with one of the biggest heists in history in a scheme involving the Bangladesh central bank and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

They stole legitimate login credentials from Bangladeshi officials and, in a barrage of transfer requests, convinced the New York Fed to transfer money from the Bangladesh account in New York to another account, known as “the Shalika Foundation,” in Sri Lanka.

The hackers would have made away with nearly $1 billion had they not spelled “foundation” as “fandation,” triggering warnings from the New York Fed.

FBI break into dead gunman’s iPhone

DHAKA: The FBI has managed to unlock the iPhone of the San Bernardino gunman without Apple’s help.

Apple had been resisting a court order issued last month requiring the firm to write new software to allow officials to access Syed Rizwan Farook’s phone.

But officials on Monday said that it had been accessed independently and asked for the order to be withdrawn, reports the BBC.

Farook and his wife killed 14 in San Bernardino, California, in December.

They were later shot dead by police.

The FBI said it needed access to the phone's data to determine if the attackers worked with others, were targeting others and were supported by others.

US officials said Farook's wife, Tashfeen Malik, had pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State on social media on the day of the shooting.

EgyptAir plane hijacked, forced to land in Cyprus

DHAKA: An EgyptAir domestic flight from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked on Tuesday and landed in Cyprus, state radio said.

The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation reported that 55 people were on board, with a crew of seven.

There were earlier reports of about 80 to 81 people on board.

The aircraft had taken off from Alexandria at 8am local time, reported CNN Greece.

At least one man was thought to be armed.

ঢাকা: অবৈধ বোলিং অ্যাকশনের দায়ে সাময়িক নিষিদ্ধ হলেন বাংলাদেশের স্পিনার আরাফাত সানি। পরীক্ষার পর তার বোলিং অ্যাকশন অবৈধ প্রমাণিত হওয়ায় টাইগার দলের এই স্পিনারকে অফিসিয়ালি সাময়িক নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করতে যাচ্ছে আইসিসি।

একারণে, ২০১৬ টি-টুয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপে আর মাঠে নামা হবে না আরাফাত সানির। তার পরিবর্তে বাংলাদেশ থেকে ভারতের উদ্দেশ্যে রওয়ানা দেওয়ার কথা সাকলাইন সজীবের।

টাইগার দলের ম্যানেজার খালেদ মাহমুদ সুজন বাংলানিউজকে জানান, আইসিসি থেকে এখন পর্যন্ত আমাদের অফিসিয়াল ভাবে কিছু জানানো হয়নি। সানির ব্যাপারটি শুধু আমরা মৌখিকভাবে শুনতে পেরেছি। তবে, আমার মনে হচ্ছে এবারের বিশ্বকাপে আর খেলা হবে না সানির। তাকে নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করতে যাচ্ছে আইসিসি।

ধর্মশালায় টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপের বাছাইপর্বে নিজেদের প্রথম ম্যাচে নেদারল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে খেলে বাংলাদেশ। গত ৯ মার্চ বিশ্বকাপ বাছাইয়ের ‘এ’ গ্রুপে নিজেদের প্রথম ম্যাচে ডাচদের বিপক্ষে তাসকিন আহমেদ ও আরাফাত সানির বোলিং অ্যাকশন নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তোলেন মাঠের আম্পায়াররা। শুধু প্রশ্ন তুলেই তারা ক্ষান্ত হননি, বিষয়টি জানান ম্যাচ রেফারিকে আর ম্যাচ রেফারি জানায় আইসিসিকে।

টাইগাররা সে ম্যাচটিতে জয় পেলেও ম্যাচ শেষে জানা যায়, আরাফাত সানি ও টাইগার পেসার তাসকিন আহমেদের বোলিং অ্যাকশন নিয়ে সন্দেহ প্রকাশ করেছেন ম্যাচের দায়িত্ব পালন করা দুই আম্পায়ার ভারতের সুন্দারাম রবি ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ার রড টাকার। ফলে, দ্রুতই তাদের বোলিং পরীক্ষার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়।

ভারতের চেন্নাইয়ের স্যার রামাচন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পরীক্ষাগারে যান সানি। বোলিং অ্যাকশন পরীক্ষা শেষ করে চেন্নাই থেকে আবারো ধর্মশালায় ফেরেন টাইগার স্পিনার আরাফাত সানি। এরপর দলের সঙ্গে কলকাতায় যান।

বোলিং অ্যাকশন শুধরে আবারো পরীক্ষা দেয়ার পর অ্যাকশন বৈধ হলেই আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে বোলিং করতে পারবেন সানি। তার আগ পর্যন্ত নিষিদ্ধই থাকবেন এই টাইগার স্পিনার।

এদিকে, তাসকিনের ব্যাপারে কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত অফিসিয়ালি না এলেও তাকে ত্রুটিমুক্ত হিসেবে শিগগিরই ঘোষণা করা হতে পারে। চেন্নাইয়ে তাসকিনও বোলিং পরীক্ষা দিয়েছিলেন।

দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়নের সফল চেয়ারম্যান মাষ্টার এনকেএম সিরাজুল আলম

প্রথমআলোটোয়েন্টিফোর.কম প্রতিবেদন: একজন সফল চেয়ারম্যান ও জনপ্রতিধির কথা যদি বলতে চাই, তাহলে কুমিল্লা জেলার নাঙ্গলকোট উপজেলার দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের সফল চেয়ারম্যান মাষ্টার এনকেএম সিরাজুল আলমের কথাই বলতে হয়।

দলমত নির্বিশেষে যিনি দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়ন বাসীর জন্য কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন। দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়নের সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান আবুল খায়েরের মৃত্যুর পর মাত্র ১ বছরের জন্য উপনির্বাচনে নির্বাচিত হয়ে দায়িত্বভার গ্রহন করেন। দায়িত্ব গ্রহনের পর এই এক বছরে তিনি দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়নে ব্যাপক উন্নয়ন করেছেন। মানুষের সুখে দুখে তিনি তার সাহায্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে দিচ্ছেন।

চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হওয়ার আগে তিনি একজন সফল শিক্ষক হিসেবে দীর্ঘদিন বটতলী এ.মতিন উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষকতা করেন। ছাত্রজীবন থেকে সিরাজুল আলম আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনীতির সাথে জড়িত। বর্তমানে নাঙ্গলকোট উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ন সাধারণ সম্পাদক হিসেবে  দলের জন্য কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন। অতীতে আওয়ামীলীগের দু:সময়ে যখন অনেকেই না্ঙ্গলকোটের সাবেক এমপি মরহুম জয়নাল আবেদীন ভূঁইয়াকে ছেড়ে অর্থ –বিত্তশালীদের পিছু নিয়ে দল ভাঙ্গার চেষ্টা করেছেন। তখনো সিরাজুল আলম জয়নাল আবেদীন ভূঁইয়ার পাশে থেকে দলকে ভাঙনের হাত থেকে রক্ষা করেছেন। 

 

দলের প্রতি সিরাজুল আলমের একাগ্রতা দেথে নাঙ্গলকোটের বর্তমান এমপি ও সরকারের পরিকল্পনা মন্ত্রী আ হ ম মোস্তাফা কামাল (লোটাস কামাল) সিরাজুল আলমকে চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে আওয়ামীলীগের মনোনয়ন দিয়েছিলেন। নির্বাচিত হওয়ার পর সিরাজুল আলম বলেন, আমার কাছে আওয়ামীলীগ বা বিএনপি বলে কোন কথা নেই। সবাই আমার নির্বাচনী এলাকার জনগন এটাই বড় পরিচয়।

আলোকিত সমাজ সংগঠক, শিক্ষক এনকেএম সিরাজুল আলমের ঐকান্তিক প্রচেষ্টায় দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়নে ইতিমধ্যে শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, খেলধুলা, জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ, কৃষি, রাস্তাঘাটের উন্নয়নের মাধ্যমে জনগনের জীবনমান উন্নয়ন কার্যক্রম সবমহলে প্রশংসা অর্জন করেছে। বাল্য বিবাহ, যৌতুকপ্রথা বিলোপ, নারী-শিশু নির্যাতন বন্ধ, আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষা, মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রন, সকল প্রকার পারিবারিক বিবাদ শালিস বৈঠকের মাধ্যমে সফল ভাবে নিস্পত্তি করে সত্যিকারের জনপ্রতিনিধি হিসেবে যথাযথ দ্বায়িত্ব তিনি পালন করে আসছেন।

আর এ ব্যাপারে সিরাজুল আলম প্রত্যাশা ব্যক্ত করে বলেন, এবারও তিনি দলীয় মনোয়ন পাবেন। তিনি মনে করেন, উল্লেখিত ইউনিয়নের দলমত নির্বিশেষে সকলের কথা তিনি রাখতে চেষ্টা করেছেন। আর আগামী নির্বাচনেও বিপুল ভোট পেয়ে তিনি নির্বাচিত হয়ে জনগনের সেবায় নিজেকে বিলিয়ে দেবেন।

ইতিমধ্যে দৌলখাঁড় ইউনিয়নকে ভেঙে বটতলী ইউনিয়ন নামে আরো একটি নতুন ইউনিয়ন করা হয়েছে । নবগঠিত বটতলী ইউনিয়নের নির্বাচন কয়েক মাসের মধ্যে হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। এলাকার জনগন সিরাজুল আলমের উন্নয়ন কর্মকান্ড দেখে তাকে আবারও এলাকার চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে প্রত্যাশা করছেন।

এ ব্যাপারে এলাকার যুবলীগ নেতা  মামুন বলেন,  সিরাজুল আলমের মতো একজন সাহসী ও সৎ চেয়ারম্যান আমাদের প্রয়োজন, যে বটতলী এক সময় কতিপয় মাদকসেবীদের আড্ডা খানা ছিল, সিরাজুল আলম চেয়ারম্যান হওয়ার পর সেটা বন্ধ করেছেন। তাই সিরাজুল আলমকে আবারও চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে দেখতে চাই।
