Week in trading ends positively

DHAKA:
The two bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) of the country witnessed gain of share price indices on Thursday (March 31), the final trading session of the week.

DSEX, the prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained over 22.24 points or 0.24 percent to stand at 4357.53 points at the end of day’s trading.

Trade deals stood at 104,806 with transaction at over Tk 4129.63 million. Of the issues traded, 167 advanced, 104 declined and 44 remained unchanged.

Lankabangla Finance Ltd. topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 211.65 million having changed hands.

Other toppers of the market were Aman Feed Limited, BSRM Limited, Orion Infusion Ltd., Keya Cosmetics Ltd., Kds Accessories Limited, Dragon Sweater and Spinning Limited (DSSL), Quasem Drycells Limited, AFC Agro Biotech Limited and Fu-Wang Ceramic.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also followed the suit, acquiring over 37.51 points to stand at 8148.35 points.

Of the issues traded in the port city share market, 117 gained, 82 declined and 36 remained unchanged. The total value of exchange was over Tk 350.92 million.

Khaleda’s arrest warrant ‘ill-motivated’

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday (March 31) termed the issuance of arrest warrant against party Chairperson Khaleda Zia as ‘politically motivated’.

He came up with the allegation while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in city around 12 noon.

The BNP leader also said such an arrest warrant against a person, who has been fighting to uphold the country’s democracy and who did not yield to illegal caretaker government, was ridiculous.

Claiming the case as false, he also said incumbent government is detached from countrymen.

He also strongly condemned the issuance of warrant.

On March 30 (Wednesday), the court of metropolitan session judge Quamrul Hossain issued the arrest warrant against 28 accused, including Khaleda Zia, in a case filed with Jatrabari thana of city over a petrol bomb attack on a passenger bus in the area.

Independence helps Bangalis get top posts

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that the Bangalis are now being appointed in top posts as the country has eared independence.

She made this remark at the concluding ceremony of the 60th basic training course of public administration training center at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in city on Thursday (March 31).

‘No Bangalis could get top posts both in military and civil services during the period of Pakistan. Later, the situation improved little bit due to the movement of Bangabandhu’s 6-point demand.’

‘The Bangalis are now getting top positions as the country has earned independence.’

The PM said that after 21 years Awami League assumed power and started working to make the government organizations people-oriented.

‘We will celebrate the golden jubilee of our independence in 2021. We will reduce gap between the rich and poor. We are trying to remove the complicacies in bureaucracy.’

According to the premier, her government has been working to provide services to the doorsteps of people by implementing digitalization system since assuming power.

Bangladeshi killed by Houthis in KSA

MEDINA: A Bangladeshi was killed and two others injured by a missile fired by Houthi rebels in Khoba area of Najran province in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The deceased was identified as Naya Mia, hailed from Sakhipur upazila of Tangail district.

Dr Milon, a Bangladeshi physician who is working at Najran General Hospital, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said Naya Mia was killed around 12:00pm local time (3:00pm Bangladesh time) on March 30 (Wednesday).

The injured were shifted to King Fahad Central Hospital in Jizan from Najran General Hospital, Dr Milon added.

2 killed in Jessore bomb blast

JESSORE: At least two people were killed and three others injured in a blast while making crude bombs at

The deceased were identified as Sabuj, 28, son of one Anar Uddin, and Ibadul, 36, son of one Ramjan Ali. Both were from Kathmara village of sadar upazila.

Earlier on Wednesday night, five were injured at a blast while making bombs in Andolpota area of the sadar upazila.

Later, the injured were admitted to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital where the two succumbed to their injuries under treatment.

Jessore Kotowali Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Ilias Hossain confirmed the matter.
