DHAKA: The ruling Awami
League-backed lawyers panel swept the election to Dhaka Bar Association bagging
21 of the 27 posts including president and secretary.
Chief Election Commissioner
Mohammad Shah Alam Khan declared the unofficial results at 6:00am on Saturday.
According to unofficial results, AL-backed white panel
candidate M Saidur Rahman Manik was elected as president of Dhaka Bar
Association and M Ayubur Rahman has been elected as general secretary.
AL-backed panel secured nine
secretarial posts out of 12 while bagged 12 posts in executive council out of
15.
On the other hand, BNP-backed
panel won three posts in secretarial body while bagged three posts in executive
council in the election.
This year's winning candidates of the white panel are:
Abu Bakar Forhad (vice president), Abdus Salam Khan (senior assistant general
secretary) M Shahdat Hosian Bhuiyan (assistant general secretary) Ali Ahmed
(Library Secretary), Lucky Akter Flora (cultural affairs secretary), Abdul Hye
Mamun (office secretary) and M Baharul Alam Bahar (Sports affair secretary).
In the secretarial posts, winning candidates from blue
panel are: Afroja Begum Sheli (senior assistant general secretary), Abu Bakkar
Siddique (treasurer) and M Shfiqul Islam (Social welfare Secretary).
The two-day voting in Dhaka Bar Association election
2016-17 ended at lawyers’ association auditorium of Dhaka Bar in the capital on
Thursday afternoon (February 25).
Earlier, a list of 15,372 legal voters for Supreme
Court Bar Association election was declared to elect their 27 representatives
from 65 candidates.
