Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and 'Pollishree' jointly organised the training course with technical assistance of Fire Service & Civil Defense under ''Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh' project being funded by Oxfam.
The National Alliance for Risk Reduction & Response Initiatives Consortium and European Commission Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection extended cooperation in arranging the course to institutionalise the Community-based Disaster Management Preparedness Model at ward levels.
The expert trainers of Fire Service and Civil Defense conducted the training course participated by 50 urban male and female youth volunteers of Rangpur city to enhance their skill and efficiency for post- earthquake managements.
The urban volunteers were provided practical training for conducting post earthquake emergency rescue operations, providing first aids and fire extinguishing with maximum efficiency to reduce losses of human lives.
Senior Station Officer of Rangpur Fire Service & Civil Defense Station and Course Coordinator Shahidul Islam addressed the concluding ceremony as the chief guest with Co-Course Coordinator Manjil Haque in the chair.
Fire Service & Civil Defense personnel Rafikuzzaman, Mahmudul Hassan, Khurshid Alam, Project Officer of 'Pollishree' Fazlul Haque and its Master Trainer Asaduzzaman Afzal also spoke.
The speakers said urban volunteers should have early preparedness, skill and knowledge for applying efficient emergency response systems to ensure proper post-earthquake managements for substantially reducing the extent of losses of human lives.
They urged the participating urban youth volunteers for mobilising local community leaders and public representatives in disseminating knowledge on natural disasters and early preparedness among the community people to reduce losses.
The chief guest suggested the participants for utilising the knowledge and skill acquired from the training in providing basic first aids timely on spots after earthquake to ensure efficient emergency response management systems to minimise losses of lives
